Ringo Starr, is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor who gained worldwide fame as the drummer for the Beatles. He also wrote and sang the Beatles' songs "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden", and is credited as a co-writer of others, including "What Goes On".
Richard Stakey, the first member of The Beatles that I decided to portrait back in 2017. My wife and I are a lifelong fan of The Beatles and I wanted to introduce my youngest son Santino (a drummer since the age of four) to one of the greatest drummers of all time and a person that struggled a lot as a child but was able to overcome the difficulties and become a living legend in music heard by all generations.
We hang the portrait on the wall of our Bar in our home where Santino’s drums are. But in the middle of 2018, whilst Ringo was touring in the States, I was invited by a gallery in Denver and Ringo’s Art Manager, to meet Starr in person. I had no doubt that it would be the perfect opportunity to deliver the painting to him. For Lucy it was hard to let it go from our wall but meeting him personally and appreciating his music was a real treat and today a Ringo Limited Edition is hanging where his portrait was.
